Go-Ahead London introduces Menopause Champions

In a significant move towards fostering inclusivity and support within the workplace, Go-Ahead London has embarked on a groundbreaking initiative by introducing menopause champions across its head offices, depots and garages. These designated champions serve as points of contact for colleagues, offering a safe space for support and understanding around menopause. They also support colleagues who are impacted by their friends or family who are going through the menopause.  

Did you know that… 

  • Most women go through the menopause 

  • In the UK it is estimated that around 1 in 3 women are either currently going through or have reached the menopause 

  • 88% of women workers who had experienced the menopause felt it had an effect on their working life 

  • Around 6 in 10 had witnessed the issue being treated as a joke in the workplace 

  • 47% of women who had taken a day off work related to menopausal symptoms had not told their employer the reason for their absence 

This initiative underscores Go-Ahead London's commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment where every employee feels valued and respected. By providing a designated support system, Go-Ahead London is empowering its employees to openly discuss and seek assistance with menopause-related issues without fear of stigma or judgment.

Importantly, this initiative aligns seamlessly with Go-Ahead's overarching values of inclusivity and diversity. It demonstrates the company's dedication to ensuring that all employees, regardless of gender or age, feel supported and valued within the organisation. 

This recent move is just one component of Go-Ahead's broader commitment to gender equality and diversity. The company recently launched the ‘Go-Ahead Women’ campaign, aimed at recruiting 1,500 more women and striving to achieve 50% gender equality by 2035. By actively working towards gender parity, Go-Ahead is setting a powerful example for the transportation industry and beyond.
